The Wine Emporium Shipping Policy

Restricted States

Please note that some states have laws on the shipment of alcohol that prohibit us from shipping to addresses in those states. View Restricted States.

Order Verification

Before processing your order, The Wine Emporium, Inc. will contact you to verify your order. We think it is important to know our customers and you us because we view our relationship with you as a partner. We will go over the details of your order, learn about your preferences, and you can get to know us better. That way we will be better able to serve you now and in the future.

Legal Age Requirement

WINES MAY BE SOLD AND DELIVERED ONLY TO A PERSON WHO IS AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD. IN PLACING YOUR ORDER, YOU REPRESENT TO US THAT YOU ARE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD AND THE PERSON TO WHOM THE WINE WILL BE DELIVERED TO IS ALSO 21 YEARS OLD. At the time of delivery, all shipments containing alcohol require the signature of an adult who must show identification proving he or she is at least 21 years old.

Processing & Shipping Time

Most orders are processed and shipped within 24 hours of being placed. You will receive an email confirmation and tracking information so you will know when to expect your order. If there is a delay we will contact you. Ground Shipments require 1 to 5 business days depending on distance from The Wine Emporium, Inc. Overnight, 2-Day, and 3-Day Shipments are also available. Since wine takes at least a year to make, can hold up for decades in your cellar, and needs at least 3 days to relax from its voyage, we recommend you take a relaxed and measured approach to the shipment of your wine, and plan accordingly. You will enjoy your overall wine experience all the more.

Interstate and Worldwide Shipping

We accept orders for wine shipping to most states and many countries; however, due to changing direct-shipping laws and regulations, the list of states and countries we ship to may change at any time. We will contact you if your order is negatively affected by new wine shipping regulations. All wines are sold in California and title passes to the buyer in California. We make no representation as to the rights of anyone to import wine into any state outside of California. By placing an order, you authorize us to act on your behalf to engage a common carrier to deliver your order. You are soley responsible for the shipment of wine and other goods purchased and for determining the legality and tax/duty consequences of having the wine shipped. For more information, please contact us at 707-823-5200.

Shipping Rates

Shipping rates shown on this website are estimates only. Your actual costs are determined by adding the cost of packaging materials and freight. Freight charges are determined by choice of carrier, speed of delivery, weight and value. Our shipping department is not a profit center, so the charges you incur are the charges we incur and are noted on your receipt.

Shipping & Weather

The Wine Emporium, Inc. monitors NOAA weather forecasts to determine the suitability of shipping each day.

Extreme temperature conditions can affect your wine. High temperatures may cause your wine to cook and extreme cold can turn your wine to slush during shipment.

If your transit route is experiencing extreme temperatures now, and you would like to order wines that may not be available later on, we offer a Pack n Stow service. Select the "Pick Up in Sebastopol" shipping option and add a comment to your order at checkout advising us that you'd like to Pack n Stow until favorable weather allows shipment. For each month that you plan to keep the wine here, we will add a 3 dollar storage fee per each 12 bottle case (or portion of), and we will keep it here until you call us to set up shipping. Shipping arrangements must be set up by May 31st (for cold weather storage) or October 31st (for summer storage) or additional charges will be applied.

Please keep in mind that the The Wine Emporium, Inc. is not responsible for, and will not replace, wine that is damaged by extreme weather conditions. By placing an order you are accepting the responsibility for that shipment through whatever weather conditions may occur during that shipment. If you must ship during times of extreme temperatures we suggest you select either 1 or 2 day shipping and be absolutely sure that an adult is available to sign for the shipment when it arrives on the scheduled day.

The Wine Emporium, Inc. takes reasonable precautions to ensure safe, temporary storage/staging of purchased goods as, from time to time, requested by our customers. There is a charge for such temporary storage/staging. The Wine Emporium Inc. assumes no liability whatsoever for any loss, deterioration or damage to the goods stored or staged, caused by conditions beyond its control, including but not limited to acts of God, government restrictions, wars, insurrections, natural disasters or the reckless, negligent or intentional acts of third parties.
