1988 saw the entry into the Mantengoli di Montalcino family's winery of youngest sons Andrea and Marcello. It was at this time that the family - owners of the La Rasa farm since way back in 1933 - started to produce and market their own high-quality wines, made exclusively from Sangiovese, the grape at the forefront of winemaking in the area. This was how the La Serena range, which includes a Rosso di Montalcino and a Brunello di Montalcino, came into being. The successes achieved by this young company may be attributed to the care and attention devoted to the grapes in the cellars. By making the most of the valuable input of agronomist Lucio Maruotti and winemaker Paolo Caciorgna, the winery is continually improving the quality and quantity of its production. Starting out in 1988 with just one hectare, the estate now includes nine hectares under vine, and production has increased accordingly, from 2,700 bottles of Brunello per year to the current total of 11,000.
